66 RVBusiness M A Y J U N E 2 0 1 8 driver but we actually see more touring people which is great because it just hooks them into the industry They really see themselves as going between one house to another or taking a trip out west while mostly staying in hotels But then they get kind of hooked on the RV side of it Jim Hammill CEO of Erwin Hymer Group North America noted that the change in price points has a lot to do with it You can buy a Class B from 60000 all the way to 200000 depending on what technology you want what chassis its on So now you can get one for 350 a month and that hasnt existed since the 90s Perhaps more to the point however is the wide acceptance of the motorized Class B Theres this much Jake Stephenson director of sales and marketing for Midwest Automotive Designs on the line at the companys Elkhart facility deeper knowledge and people can see it more Hammill added Its on hundreds of dealers lots now Class B dealers used to be specialists Now youre seeing for example Winnebago dealers all have a Class B My dealers all have a Class B And theres a proliferation of brands coming out and new types of products coming in I think its all really awesome for industry I was very shocked at how many subcategories there are or how many different buyers there are within the Class B segment added Coachmens Recchio who much like Dolphin Coachs Emahiser entered the Class B segment after spending career time on the towable side Youve got fulltimers Recchio noted Youve got people who work out of their units Youve got traditional Class A buyers that do not want to give up on the RVing lifestyle but dont want to tow or drive or set up and tear down a 42 foot motorhome The Class Bs are easier to travel with Ive seen a huge influx of single women because the van is much easier to drive Im also surprised at the first time buyers we get he added We are probably averaging three to four first time buyers every month Thats exciting And were starting to tap into the Millennial market a lot more This is such a versatile product and the fact that it can be a daily driver adds saleability to the segment RVB 2018 Airstream Interstate
