BY BOB LIVINGSTON PHOTOS BY JOHN VALENZUELA Attendees at the California RV Show tour displays After many years at the Fairplex in Pomona Calif the show relocated to the more spacious Auto Club Speedway in nearby Fontana California RV Show Moves to Auto Club Speedway and Attracts Record Crowds Relocating the event to the larger facility has been a four year undertaking said RVIA Western Show Director Tom Gaither Considered the largest toy hauler show in the nation the West Coast event also featured a number of builders offering modular construction S ometimes a simple change of venue can make all the difference in the world After many years on location at the Fairplex in Pomona Calif the Oct 2 11 RV Industry Association RVIA California RV Show set up shop at the Auto Club Speedway a complex used for 92 RVBusiness N O V E M B E R D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 9 NASCAR and other racing events Although the speedways Fontana location is not that far from the Fairplex the more desirable facilities attracted record crowds for the show and generated brisk sales according to Tom Gaither RVIAs Western show director Gaither spearheaded the change in venue where 45 manufacturers displayed 75 brands of RVs and 150 suppliers set up booths in the exhibitor tent on the grounds outside the spectator stands referred as the fan zone by NASCAR enthusiasts This has been a four year undertaking When I first started this show was on 600000 square feet of ground said Gaither It grew to a million square feet and we were out of guest parking So I visited the Speedway and saw all the parking and infrastructure that was available We now have real bathrooms and free guest parking versus the 12 fee at the Fairplex Long range plans he added are to move the show into the Speedway infield and continue to embellish the event with celebrities and sports legends while possibly adding rally style RV parking on the 2100 campsites inside the infield and developing other attractions that can RVIA Western Show Director Tom Gaither
